Camper is known for its flexible, durable, lightweight shoes using state-of-the-art manufacturing methods including 360 degree stitching and goodyearwelt construction. This follows its valued and commitment to the shoes involving four generations of family.
Although Camper was not founded until 1975, you have to travel back 130 years to discover the origins of this remarkable brand. A talented cobbler named Antonio Fluxa sailed to England in 1877 to explore new methods of industrial manufacturing. On his adventure back he gathered the best craftsmen from Inca and introduced them to the pioneering shoe manufacturing machines.
However, it was Antonio's grandson who founded Camper in 1975 after inheriting his grandfather's shoe factory. So, Camper arose during the cultural transformation of Spain born out of the end of Franco's disctatorship which meant new ways of thinking, the liberation of women and freedom. Therefore, the brand encompasses choice, creativity and comfort.
In 1981 the first store was launched in Barcelona keeping to Camper's Spanish roots. It was bold and challenging with new graphics and a large display of sizes. By 1992 the brand had expanded to fashion capitals such as Milan, Paris and London. It is still expanding right now.
Today, Camper supports a project called 'Together' in which they bring together cultures and ideas from leading artists around the world to create new footwear lines for the brand. Artists from simple Scandinavian drawer Alfredo Haberli to the Spanish contemporary architect Bendetta Tagiabue. This project is embodied by their motto "Reinvent your reality and start with your shoes'.
With Camper still growing its brand it is still a prominent player in the shoes market today and after its extraordinary history hopefully this family brand will continue to be under the chief executive Miguel Fluxa.
"Founded in 1975, Camper is a family business with a rich shoemaking heritage"
