El Naturalista is a young, socially responsible and ethical footwear company from La Rioja, Spain. The Company was formed in 2001 in an area where artisan shoemakers have crafted footwear for hundreds of years.
El Natura Lista follow a strict Eco-Policy and they are proud to say that everything they do is inspired by nature, with conscious decisions that they believe will make a positive impact on the world around them, their shoes and the people who wear them. The shoes are made using vegetable tanned leather and the outsoles are produced from recycled or natural ergonomic rubber and recycled insoles, lined with padded leather. For the summer of 2015 El Naturalista are also releasing a Vegan Friendly range made from a combination of bamboo and polyester with no trace of animal products used in the manufacturing process.
It’s easy to see what stands this brand apart, El Naturalista’s internationally recognised business model is all about trying to do things differently and “trying a better way”. They accept this takes time but like Thomas Edison’s light bulb, it’s better to find 999 ways not to do something if eventually you find one way that makes a difference. This is the very methodology that has made El Naturalista who they are today and it sees them used as an example of business innovation by ESADE: A course run by one of the top 4 European educational institutes for business.
As a brand, they just want to leave the world a better place than what it was when they started. This isn’t always easy but all of their shoes are made by artisan craftsman in their factories in Spain and Morocco, two countries with one common purpose, the production of quality goods at a limited cost to the planet. As a result they make their shoes together with local suppliers, this provides greater transparency for quality control and it reduces emissions due to less transport. The relationships El Naturalista have made in Morrocco also helps to further develop the strong connection the two countries have formed with intercultural links, respect and mutual learning. Whilst they appreciate China’s up and coming status they see it as a future market place as opposed to a location for cheaper production because the only way to ensure the highest levels of quality is to oversee their craftsman behind it.
El Naturalista also strongly endorses and promotes Human Rights in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization Collective agreement and an essential part of their contracts also expects their suppliers to respect and promote these values.
El Natura Lista have built their business on strong ethical and green values and continue to grow by standing by these values, producing quality footwear in innovative and funky styles.
