THE MAKING OF LE CHAMEAU BOOTS

Ever wondered how Le Chameau boots are made? What actually goes into making their classic wellington boots? It is a complex process that takes 9 months of training to master but the end result is a fabulous pair of wellies that are built to the highest quality. Each boot is made by just one Maitre Bottier.

PROVENANCE The origin of Le Chameau wellington boots starts with the design and sourcing of the materials used. Le Chameau only use the finest natural rubber, leather and neoprene and their design teams are constantly exploring new technologies. It is this combined with archives that ensure they continue to innovate new designs while still retaining their classic heritage, shapes and proven methods.
		SECRET RECIPE Le Chameau boots have been developed for more than 90 years and they have a wealth of experience and expertise that have been acquired along the way. Each pair of rubber boots is made using a secret recipe which makes every pair of wellington boots unique and is what creates the supple rubber they use.
PREPARATION Once all materials have been sourced, all the individual rubber pieces are then hand-cut and trimmed, the sole is moulded and the linings are cut ready for the Maitre Bottier to carefully assemble the boots.
		ASSEMBLY Each pair of Le Chameau boots are constructed by a single Maitre Bottier, it takes 9 months of training before a Maitre Bottier is ready to make their first boot. In order to make the traditional Le Chameau shape, the Maitre Bottier stretches the rubber pieces over an aluminium last which forms the famous Le Chameau boot shape. Once the boot has been created all the trims and small details that give the classic Le Chameau character and quality are added. Now the boot has been constructed, it is ready for the final part of the process.
FINISHING The final part of manufacturing these wellington boots is the ‘cooking’ of the rubber, also know as the vulcanisation process which gives the boots its flexible and durable rubber upper. Every different style of boot Le Chameau makes requires different ‘cooking’ temperatures and timings, this ensures every boots is made to Le Chameau’s standards. Once completed and cooled, every pair is tested to ensure they are waterproof and before the boots leave the workshop they go through final quality checks and are then polished, wrapped and boxed ready to be despatched to their new owner.
